As we grow older, we supposedly mature. But is maturity synonymous to realism? Becoming more acquainted with the cruelties of society? Jaded?

When we're young, we see things that we like because they're pretty, because someone's nice; gives you candy (ehehe i still think they're nice because of that) but we don't see their flaws, and if there are, ulterior motives.

Younger people are more likely to believe in idealistic theories and solutions, like the THEORY of communism. Older people have seen the tides rise and fall, no longer believe that any of it will make a difference, or know it won't. They know that life will continue no matter what happens; the wheels of Time won't wait for you.

Even with music/media. You see flocks of 12 year old girls screaming "NICK!!!! I LOVE YOU NICK!!!!!" and "MARRY ME JUSTIN!!" and all sorts of nonsense to boy bands. I still adore my boy bands (BACKSTREET'S BACK ALRIGHT!!!!) I still love Brian, but as we grow older, we fall less for the cheesy love song sung by someone with the softest ballad voice and sweetest greenish-blue eyes, though some people (COUGH KRISTINA) still faint at the faintest echo of the word "love" heheh. don't hurt me! tis the truth! But that's only a few of us who still retain their childlike belief. As we grow older, we don't believe it when people say they love us; we don't want to accept help, or when we do, we still have a certain degree of suspicion, when someone offers to help/be a friend. We think, "Why are they doing this?" Never once stopping to think that it might just be out of the kindness of a person's heart. We stop believing in the fairy tales, Prince Charming (steven gerrard WILL come for me!), happy endings, best friends forever, etc.

But is this maturity? Is maturity something beyond physical changes like the deepening of the voice and certain people gaining facial hair? Emotional maturity is seen as being more able to accept the pain and disappointments, yet is it really? Does the pain of loss, disappointment, and regret ever lessen? Do we become immune to the pain? Do we WANT to be immune to the pain? We learn not to throw a temper tantrum in public (some of us yet to master it. hehe). We learn to hold in tears until we reach a safe place/breaking point where they pour over. Yet the tears never go away; the pain never becomes easier to bear. So does maturity mean that you've grown tough? Can take the pain? Or is it merely that you can masquerade your feelings? Can put on a facade for the world to see?

Hmm... Andy get on so we can discuss! Camron should read this too...

Perfection once attained is no longer perfection.

Is that true or false? Let us hypothesize that perfection CAN be attained. Yet once you do, what else is there? Once you're perfect, the only way you can go is down, and you have nothing left to strive for.

So why do we strive for perfection? Is this unattainable, unplausible goal that we strive for really a good motivation? Why do we blindly struggle on, knowing full well that it will never be achieved?

So I sign off around midnight, thinking, "Alright I'm going to bed now."
Brush my teeth, put on the contacts, brush my hair, etc.
"Maybe I'll go take a look at this book really quick. Just read the summary and maybe start a few pages. Just a couple. Then I'll go to sleep." So I go to the book room (in my house; tis larger than the classics section at the library) and grab "Tess of the D'Urbervilles".
Read the inside flap, since it's hardbound. Then start reading.

It was three AM before I put it down.

I kept thinking, "Just a bit more.. It's only like 1 AM right now!"

And when I woke up this morning at 11 AM, I started reading again. Haven't stopped till now, and it's still open.

MUST KNOW WHAT HAPPENS
My dad just sighs at me, because he's DYING to spoil it for me. I asked him, "Is it a sad story or a happy ending?"
"It's one of the saddest books ever written."

I just had a thought, and I'm feeling thoughtful today so here we go.
You know how there's the expression that people fear the unknown, like in Beauty and Beast, when Gaston's leading the villagers to attack the castle, they're singing, "We don't like what we don't understand and this monster is..."
Obviously there's reasoning about that. It's more comfortable, more secure. It's the same. You know what's going to happen. Nothing exhilirating, yet nothing unpredictable and dangerous. If you're suffering, at least the pain is familiar.

But then...
There's the whole theory that people are attracted to the mysterious, the unknown. Like the Phantom of the Opera, women are somehow attracted to him (never mind Gerry Butler), because of the mystery and enigma he holds. How girls always like the bad boys, or at least the dark, handsome, mysterious stranger. Tolkien plays around with it too, with the character of Feanaro. None of us can really pinpoint what exactly it is we love about him. Well, the problematic, obsessed few of us that spend our days analyzing his character and writing stories about him and Nerdanel. He should be feared. He should be hated. He burns everyone he comes in touch with, with his all-consuming flame. He leaves you nothing for yourself, but as one person, who I think has captured Feanaro with these words perfectly, wrote in their story:

"It would burn those who watch it into destruction, yet they would yearn to be destroyed, only to once have been so bright."

So which is it? Do we fear what we don't know, or are we drawn to it, wanting to unravel the mystery, yet never doing so? Yet what would be the fun of a solved mystery? The feeling of accomplishment and satisfaction soon wears away, and you seek new mysteries and enigmas to poke and prod at. Maybe Camron is right once in a while. Enigma isn't a bad thing all the time; just infuriating for the one trying to solve it.

I love the Lord of the Rings. I really do. I haven't watched any of the three films in about three months, though no one will believe that. I love them. I don't think I'll get over it any time soon as you all hope I will. Tis the longest obsession I've ever had.

I love John Ronald Reuel Tolkien. Iluvatar bless that man. May he rest forever in peace, beyond the breaking of the world. Or is he one of the Eldar, watching and waiting in Mandos? That way the genius might be reborn.

I was at the library today, perusing through the classics section for the 936th time since I was six. Again, I found nothing I wanted to read that I haven't read already.

As I was perusing, I was aching to find a good romance/historical fiction, basically a historical fiction with romance to read. It seems I've read most of them already. ARGH. And another thing about historical fiction writers, they never have the romance end up right, because usually the heroine, since girls seem to read them predominantly, will decide that she needs to be independent, discover her own "true identity", and reject the poor guy. That's what bugged the oieuwrxv out of me in "Fifth of March" by Ann Rinaldi. Rachel REJECTED Matthew in the end. I couldn't believe it! HE was ENGLISH. And she was so enamoured of him!!! I sigh. Yes yes I understand that she needed "to find her place in the world", not run away to England when all was in an upheavel. She needed to be independent, blah blah blah. But he was so PERFECT. ARGH. Even if he killed a bunch of Yanks...

Any suggestions? I think I need to write my own historical fiction romance. Ahhhh!!! But I don't want to research. Actually I do. Need a time period/country to get into. Someone get me into a time period/country. PLEASE! Do it for my sanity! Or suggest a good book. A good thick one that I'm not going to finish for a long long time. One that I'll read everywhere I go, and try to read in the shower, till I discover that water+book=not a good idea. SHHH!!! I was NINE!

OMG! I GOT ELSA'S PRESENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It'S SOOOOOOOOO AWESOME.
Well she sent me the special edition soundtrack for Phantom of the Opera, and I'm listening to the Swordfight at the moment. I was actually intending to listen to Wandering Child, and now too lazy to stop it.
BUT THAT'S NOT THE POINT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

I open the huge package, and I see--ANAKIN'S FACE!!!!!!! AHH!!! and i promised I must use it. O yes, she gave me a Star Wars binder with Anakin's face all over. HELL YEA!! and it was his hot episode II face, not his sexy in a bad boy way episode III face. I'm debating whether to put my poetry, my stories, my notes, or my quotes in there.
THEN, a pretty photo album with AWESOME pictures. ROME! St. Peter's Basilica, the Eiffel Tower, the statues, various dogs (kind of random, but AWESOME), Pompeii, Notre Dame, the Louvre, the SEINE!!! OMG THAT WAS THE MOST AWESOME PICTURE of the whole thing. Like an overview of Paris, city of lights and romance. I sigh.. St. Eteinne.
O yea! And she included, at the end, two pictures of French Star Wars ads!!!
Then there were postcards from Pompeii, Notre Dame, Paris, Rome. And then bookmarks from the LOUVRE, with famous paintings: Napoleon, Egyptian wall carving, MONET!!!!! WATER LILIES! I CAN'T BELIEVE SHE SAW WATER LILIES WITHOUT ME. but the one i love is of Madame Barbe de Rimsky Korsakow by Winterhalter. Wow it's beautiful. The oil is used so delicately; her face so beautiful and pure; and you can almost stroke her hair; it's so real.
THEN.. to top it all off: A FRENCH NEWSPAPER!!!!!!!! with Star Wars as the main article. I'm determined to LEARN French, and one day be able to read it. DETERMINED I Tell thee! TIS BEAUTIFUL!!!
Argh I should have kept one of those English newspapers Sam gave me everyday! It'd be aweseome. O well I can get one from him anyway. Good times. Jen had me really worried yesterday, because the chapter didn't seem to fit w/ her, especially the songs. I know I mutated some of the characters, but I suppose I was just getting a little creative. That's the problem when you write stories chapter by chapter, without posting the finished work, because you get ideas in the end that would be better if they were introduced in the beginning.
Like Eomer sketching, I think I should have worked that in somewhere in the beginning, so when this happened, it wouldn't have been so sudden, and Eomer wouldn't seem to be a hidden artist or something. HEY, you never know. The unlikeliest of people have their talents. Like Camron can be the most philosophical person I know, and many other qualities I will never mention aloud to anyone.
